During the summer of 2006, NAED recruited teams of distributors and manufacturers who were passionate about making the product introduction process more efficient. The task forces, composed of volunteers from distributors and manufacturers, analyzed the various issues involved and considered recommendations to simplify the product introduction process. Both distributors and manufacturers recognized a common goal of developing a more effective communication and coordinated implementation process in order to provide a more efficient product introduction process for all parties involved.

Recommended Best Practices in Planning a Successful Launch (includes Recommended Industry Vocabulary)
The task forces determined the first critical tool needed to improve channel efficiency and reduce costs for both trading partners was a common vocabulary. A list of recommended definitions for “New” Product, Product “New” to the Electrical Distribution Channel, Manufacturer’s Brand Extension, Manufacturer’s Line Extension, and Distributor’s Line Card Extension is included on Page 12. Once distributors and manufacturers speak a common language, best practices in planning a successful product launch can be addressed, allowing further process efficiencies and channel cost savings.
