DataFirst Program FAQs

The simple truth is that distributors are not getting what they need, in the way they need it, when they need it. DATAFirst is a collaborative partner-to-partner scorecarding program to convey distributor data quality requirements for manufacturer fulfillment. This program enables manufacturers to provide the high-quality data needed to remain not only the channel of choice, but the Channel of First Choice.

Manufacturers will subscribe to the program and submit their data for evaluation. Individual detailed reports are available to the manufacturer, so they can see what data is missing, or needs to be improved. In addition, custom partner scorecarding services are available that will result in having the manufacturer and distributor data sets in harmony, to ensure efficient electronic ordering, warehouse automation and effective e-commerce store fronts to optimize sales.

What exactly is high-quality data?

One of the most important things we can do for the industry is to define what data quality is so that it can be measured. High-quality data has seven key characteristics — accurate, agile, complete, consistent, standardized, synchronized and timely. Because we know what gets measured gets improved.

Why do we need high-quality data?

Distributors want to sell more products, not create product content. Your company cannot optimize the return on technology investments unless high quality data is at the foundation. Manufacturer’s product lines are easy to sell when distributors are equipped with all the valuable product information in a consumable format.

Who is responsible for providing high-quality data?

DATAFirst is a collaborative process:

• Distributors need to communicate what they need;
• Manufacturers will create and maintain the data;
• Data service providers provide the mechanism to deliver it; and
• NAED provides scorecarding tools to assure the highest quality data is delivered to distributors.

How is DATAFirst different?

DATAFirst encompasses all important data elements regardless of the data provider. This program provides a mechanism for distributors to document their exact data requirements with each manufacturer. DATAFirst is not a data warehouse; it is a unique way to rate the quality of your data and facilitate communication between distributors and manufactures.

Improving data quality is the main the goal and ensuring manufacturers are sharing that high quality data with their distributors is the ultimate achievement.

Why should distributors get involved?

Because your business is built on high-quality data. Distributors need to obtain high-quality data to optimize selling and operating efficiencies across their entire product offering.

Improvement in quality data will help everyone in the industry sell more products, power distributor
e-commerce sites more quickly and provide an exceptional customer buying experience. The reports evaluate manufacturers’ transactional and product content data using qualitative and quantitative measurements. Until data quality is dened, measured and shared with manufactures, the
struggle to obtain the data will continue indefinitely.

Additional Benets to Distributors:

  • Optimize Sales and Accelerate Revenue
  • Increase Customer Loyalty
  • Improve Operating Efficiencies
  • Improve Productivity and Strengthen Manufacturer Relationships

Why should manufacturers get involved?
By assuring high-quality data for their products in their distributors’ selling and operational systems, manufacturers’ products become the “first choice” in the marketplace. The program includes partner-to-partner scorecarding which allows distributors and manufacturers to evaluate only the data that is important to the trading partner relationship and work on achieving true data synchronization.

Additional Benets to Manufacturers:

  • Optimize Sales and Accelerate Revenue
  • Increase Brand Visibility and Improve Operating Efficiencies
  • Achieve Industry Recognition
  • Strengthen Distributor Relationships
  • The suite of reports will be delivered to manufacturers, and are tailored to include:
    • Easy-to-use graphical reports in business, not technical terms, directly to executive team
    • Sub-reports identifying the business impact of missing and inaccurate data
    • Powerful, robust and drill down capabilities

How can we get involved?

Distributors can get involved by participating in the data study. Manufacturers can get involved by providing data for evaluation. If you have additional questions, please
